De Mowbray Music

De Mowbray Music is a charity based in the beautiful market town of Thirsk, nestled between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, in the Vale of Mowbray. It was founded in 2020 by Benjamin Ellin and Emily Taylor as a way to build on the already vast array of arts in this thriving area, and ensure music is at the forefront of the local conscience. The community is at the heart of everything we do, and through our work we bring together and connect individuals from all walks of life to produce high-quality and inspiring performances across an abundance of genres.

The De Mowbray Music Festival began in August 2021, with opera, jazz, folk, musical theatre, orchestral, choral, community and family events taking place every summer. Highlighting the exceptional professional northern talent, supporting grassroots performing arts and exciting audiences which are growing year on year. Vision, Mission & Aims

Our Vision: For live music to be celebrated across the region. For music to be without boundaries, limits or exceptions; regardless of social or economic standing, race, religion, creed or age. For music to be accessible and educational; a situation where interaction and constant questioning form the backbone of the creation of something full of beauty, magic and awe.

Our Mission: To provide opportunities to all; bringing together seemingly disparate members of the community and uniting all in live music events and performances open to the widest possible audiences.

Our Aim: To reach all areas of the community and put on high quality performances in North Yorkshire. To curate the De Mowbray Music Festival and related events encompassing all aspects of the arts.
